Summer Family Fun

May 30, 2010

Happy unofficial start of summer! I scheduled this session weeks ago and I believe we had two rain postponements and a reschedule so when I was finally able to photograph them, how appropriate that I kick off the summer season with this gorgeous family! I love mom’s choices in clothes, they definitely had the All-American vibe going on so I totally went with it. We met at the Gettysburg battlefields which has so many beautiful choices for backdrops and has a special meaning this Memorial Day weekend.

Summer, picnics, watermelon, red barn = definitely All-American!

I love this white picket fence, blossoms on the ground and the vibrant blue outfits here. This little area might just be one of my new favorite spots to photograph in because of the awesome light shining through the trees.

For this shot, I wanted to photograph mom and dad together but the kids jumped in on each shot here and posed themselves just like this for each!!! Love it when photographs are truly the real deal!

We ended the session with lollipops and big brother did a “cheers” with hers, and hers broke…. so he gave her his, not before he had one last lick. Isn’t that so sweet?

Downtown Fun

May 29, 2010

This morning I cohersed one of my favorite people into letting me photograph her girls for some downtown/urban shots at the laundromat (or is it spelled laundrymat?). Every one in awhile I just get an itch to do something different, process things a little differently and I need test subjects. I try to suggest the urban look for sessions, even family sessions, but a lot of people don’t see how it would be very cute with babies, kids, etc… But, I love finding things to use as backgrounds downtown, that’s where I find some of the most colorful backgrounds ever. Lucky for me, I had some beautiful little models today to help.

I would love a shot like this of my daughter hanging in my laundry room! :) Nothing like putting a smile on my face while folding clothes!

Happy Day

May 26, 2010

This beautiful evening I was at the beautiful Catoctin Mountain Orchardwith these beautiful people. Their oldest daughter is having a birthday tomorrow and they’ve never had professional photos done before (much to celebrate)!

Perfect.

If you arrive with rain boots to wear when it’s not even raining, I just might do a cartwheel.

Mom brought this basket from her house (she came very prepared!)…. I love it!

I’m kinda in love with these shots.

And if you have 3 beautiful girls in your family, I can pretty much guarantee that I’ll want to have a tea party.

Truly daddy’s little princesses.

If you’re a parent of a toddler, you can relate to peace and quiet followed by them interrupting and running circles around you!

Happy (almost summer!)

Life is Good.

May 25, 2010

So I read recently from another photographer that “If you train your eyes to see love, the rest will fall into place”. So that’s what I’ve been trying to do.

This is my second session with this little baby, you might recall I dubbed his newborn session Miracle Baby for a good reason. He is so very happy to be here and life is good for the K family as they celebrate his 1/2 year birthday!

Sweet Baby

May 24, 2010

Yesterday I had the pleasure of meeting this gorgeous little baby and her parents who are totally over the moon happy with her. She’s the big 6 months now and I truly love this age.

I also love those special little bonds I capture with my camera, like the bond of a daddy and his baby girl. Love it!

Another awesome new product…. acrylic mounts. A piece of acrylic printed with your favorite photograph and mounted with 4 silver and very modern brackets. Because I hung this in my in-home studio, I also included some photos of the room below.

I don’t prefer studio work so I don’t offer it for anything but newborns. I would much rather be in someone’s home or a more natural environment with older children and families but with newborns, it’s really nice to have studio space available in my home. Remember, as an incentive to use the space (because I don’t have to lug around my stuff! :) ) I offer a $125 off the session fee for studio newborn sessions. Pay no attention to my jampacked prop closet! ;)

Float Wraps

May 22, 2010

I’m really excited to offer Float Wraps to my product offerings, I have them displayed in my home and took some photographs today to show you how gorgeous they are. And the best part about them is that they are more affordable than canvas gallery wraps (which I still offer and love of course!).

This set I’ve displayed here is of Madeline in the metallic float wrap. Metallic has a shiny metallic-like surface and while it won’t work with every single photograph, it makes black and whites look pretty sleek and modern. The float wrap is just wrapped around a mounted surface and then there is a foam block that displays it “floating” against the wall. This is a set of 4-8×10s that I have mounted with 3M Command Strips! That’s how light they are.

This next one is the canvas finish float wrap and it is a size 18×24. The color here is amazing and is in my opinion, comparable to the amazing rich color that you get on a gallery-wrapped canvas. This hangs at the entrance of my house at the door and has a lustre finish for protection. The surface is a canvas material and it again, floats away from the wall but this one is pretty large and is hung with a wall screw.

While I can’t take these on-location with me to sessions, you’re always welcome to stop by and see them in person!

12 Days Old

May 11, 2010

What a sweet way to spend my Mother’s Day morning…. and what a sweet gift this little guy was for his mommy on Mother’s Day! When I asked him how he felt about that, this is the response I got:
IMG_2008BW

Okay, not really but you can imagine that’s what he was thinking. :) And I have never, ever seen a newborn baby smile while awake at his mommy… but he just looked right up and her and did this. See, I told you he was happy to be here.

He’s a big boy and fit so snug in my props, but so relaxed and cozy in there. He gave me some great eye contact!

Big brother was not feeling so swell so we had to forgo the sibling shot for now. What a cute pair of boys these two make!

Happy belated mother’s day to all of my readers! This, my friends, is the reason for the season.

I’ve been getting a lot of questions by email and on Facebook lately and while I wish I had the time to devote to answering each and every one in detail, I decided to start offering one-on-one mentoring sessions to cover these questions more thoroughly. One-on-ones on any photography subject matter that we can cover in an hour-and-a-half. While I am anything but the photography guru or Photoshop guru, I do enjoy teaching, chatting it up with like-minded creative people, and I do think I have some valuable lessons-learned to share! So I put the call out on Facebook last week and within the week’s time, I filled 5 spots. At the risk of overbooking on my already tight schedule, I’m going to hold off on offering any more until later on this year until I’m sure I’ve gotten all their follow-up questions answered. If you’d like more information on sessions in the future, please contact me.

My first mentoring session was this past week with the super sweet Crystal Collura, a past client of mine who is interested in starting a business, who drove 3 hours to come chat with me. We had a great time on a beautiful evening at Baker Park talking about things like metering for light, camera settings, toggling focal points and some basic Photoshop Talk. She reminds me so much of myself in that she wants to absorb everything she can about photography. It’s an obsession I tell ya!

Just some fuzzy baby ducklings we met at Baker Park.
