Inspired

April 30, 2010

I was inspired by many things here: this vintage headband that I love, her Matilda Jane outfit, this old house on the battlefields that I drive by all the time, photographers like Skye Hardwick and Tanya Brunnelson who do this vintage style really well, the urge to try something different, and mostly just inspired to capture my daughter’s little happy self as she evades my camera lately.

You know those faces that only mommies understand? This one is *that face* for me…. it’s her “why are being so silly mommy?” face. That’s why I love it.

Family Photographs

April 26, 2010

Just wanted to make a special blog posting about how important I believe family photographs are. Whenever I want to remember how happy my childhood was, I pull out my family photographs. Whenever I want to remember how great my mom and dad were, I pull out my family photographs. With each and every session, I encourage family interactions. If you book a session for your child’s first birthday, I’ll focus on your child, but will still attempt to capture some interactions with family members present. Stop worrying about those last few pounds you have to lose (your children don’t care!) and stop worrying about how your shirt looks (I’ll tell you if you’re showing something you shouldn’t). Just relax, be yourselves and enjoy your family.

Here’s a great example of this family who did it very well. They just trusted me to guide them into set-ups, they focused on each other and their child, and the rest came naturally. No stiff poses, no awkward expressions. Just realness :) So what to do with all those photos anyway? Why not do a collage on a gallery mount?

And of course I can do one with just the star of the photographs as well!

Coming Soon

April 24, 2010

…a sweet little girl to this very happy couple!

I love maternity sessions, in the spring, summer, winter and Fall. I really just love them. Then I sit on the edge of my seat until baby arrives and am over the moon happy for the parents. I can’t wait to meet this little baby soon.

I’ve been noticing the weeds on the sides of the roads lately and have been itching to photograph in them (my husband says “They’re WEEDS Sandy…” but to me, it’s a gorgeous field of yellow wildflowers). This beautiful mom-to-be just glowed in the flowers, orchard and golden sun that was just perfect today.

Miracle Baby

April 19, 2010

It never ceases to amaze how this job allows me to meet such really wonderful people.  I get to hear the most inspiring stories sometimes of birth, pregnancy, love and life.  I am truly blessed.

And so is this beautiful mom with her adoring husband and the newest big sister in town.  This little guy was a photographer’s dream today and I’m so fortunate that they asked me to capture them for the first time as a family of 4.

M family +1

April 13, 2010

Remember this little ski love story I shared with you a few weeks ago? Now they’re +1 with a beautiful baby boy who was as sweet as sweet could be for me today.

As is the case with each session, I end up having a favorite photograph that I add to my list of all-time favorites. I really love this shot :)

I really love this one too because of how comfortable he looks so snug in his mommy’s snowflake scarf. She wore one to her maternity session and I really wanted to incorporate it into the session, but it had some pink in it (boys + pink = not a great idea!) but I love this one even more.

blue eyes, love & family

April 12, 2010

I got to photograph this gorgeous blue-eyed baby today who was the happiest little subject for me. AND, as if that wasn’t enough, together with his mommy and daddy, they make the cutest family photographs.

I hope its no surprise that the blog previews are usually some more of the non-traditional kinds of photographs that I love so much. Where there is lots of laughter and smiles, there is a happy photographer here so thank you so much D family! I always tell my clients that even though we all want some great photographs of our kids growing up, throw in some family shots there too because when our kids are grown, those will be the photographs they cherish most. I’m pretty sure this little guy will cherish these one day :)

Check out the gorgeous apple blossoms in bloom at Catoctin Mountain Orchard!

New Life

April 12, 2010

Goodness I’m so behind things lately, especially blogging! Are you a Facebook fan? Check it out over there if you are and stay up-to-date with the latest news there too! So a lot has happened since my last post… like gorgeous Spring color breathing new life into everything around us!

Last weekend (Happy belated Easter by the way!), the peach blossoms at the orchard were in and it was the most beautiful setting for a mini-maternity session with a gorgeous mommy and her son. I can’t wait to meet baby K coming soon.
