happy halloween!
October 31, 2009The Catalog Family
October 31, 2009I felt like I was shooting for a catalog or something while at the H family’s home… everything was just that perfect. As I’m going back through these, I am just not sure who has the best smile among them all, they’re really some of the most wonderfully adorable people I’ve ever met… maybe these photos will help illustrate this a little better!
I love this shot, yep, this one is going in my family portfolio! No one ever thinks to have a family photo in their kids’s rooms but even more special that these girls share a beautiful room… and playtime is the best time.

A fellow photographer recently gave me a really nice compliment. She said my family photographs tell great stories. This one is definitely a great story!

When a little girl is Cinderella for Halloween, it’s only natural she would want to wear that dress for pictures but seriously, this photo wouldn’t be so magical without this dress on.

So happy I tell ya.

Love the warm and inviting feeling that a sofa in front of a warm and inviting home brings!

Fun Fall Family Day
October 27, 2009When this mom contacted me for photographs and having already known her and her kids’ ages, I immediately began thinking about ways to keep them having fun. I want to tell you a secret: those photos where all the kids are looking properly into the camera with their “trained” smiles against the fake backdrop all while seconds before mom said if they didn’t smile for the camera, they weren’t getting a lego set for Christmas, well those kinds of photos make me shudder!!!
I wanted these photos to be fun and fun is what I got. These kids were a blast and I think their mom is just one of the nicest people I’ve ever met.

Imagine my husband’s face when I said I needed his help to set-up a bed outside for kids to jump on! hahaha! Thanks dear, you’re the best.

This little princess just celebrated her first birthday and mom said she was the apple of her daddy’s eye…

… for which I totally believed when I asked him to have a tea party with his daughter and he said, “sure.” Yep, he’s totally smitten with her!

And I think he’s pretty smitten with his wife too.

How to Be a Great Baby During a Photo Session
October 26, 2009A gorgeous set of eyes and the willingness to wear a hat is step number 1.

Being super cute and willing to laugh at my jokes, or at least pretend to think I’m funny is nice too.

Love your dad and mom very much.

Participate in the photographer’s idea of an ideal family portrait with a smile, and better yet, do something really cute on a whim.

Serious faces are good with eye contact in black and white because it makes you the center of the photograph.
And finally, it’s okay to chew on the props sometimes… it shows your blue eyes off even more…and your chubby baby fingers that are so reminiscent of this fun age.

Thank you G family and thank you to you little baby for being a fantastic subject for me today!
Beautiful Baby Coming Soon
October 26, 2009So I think that pregnancy really, really suits certain people. They just look fantastic and have that happiness written all over them… this beautiful mom-to-be just fit that bill for me today. She and her husband can’t wait to meet their baby girl coming soon and I can’t now either!

I love these next two in the baby’s so special and so beautiful nursery with all kinds of personal creative touches and I love that the dog has her tongue sticking out inthe second shot!
Downtown New Market is and all of it’s old-fashioned charm is a favorite of mine.

Maternity photographs are really something to cherish. I love doing them and it’s a wonderful blessing to be able to help someone celebrate something so exciting. Congrats M & J!
I Can’t Believe It Either
October 22, 2009I’ve gotten a few bookings recently for JANUARY 2010 so I figured I needed to go ahead and start planning for next year! Whew, I can hardly believe this year went so fast and furious for me. If you are inquiring about a holiday mini-session spot at Clemsonville Tree Farm, I only have one time slot left.
I would like to start planning a Valentine’s Day Mini-Session for the weekend of 1/30-1/31. A limited number of these special “Valentine’s Day Cookies in Your Kitchen” sessions will be accepted and they are ideal for families with ages 12 months and up because I’ll be photographing your family baking cookies in your kitchen! I’ll be providing some aprons, and chef hats if you desire, and some heart lollipops for those who are good chefs!
This will be an all digital package again and files will be available to download by 2/7, in time for Valentine’s Day cards. A limited number will be accepted due to time contraints and travel to and from your home so please contact me if you are interested in receiving more information!
Celebrate Gettysburg Magazine
October 21, 2009You might know that I’m also a contributing photographer for Celebrate Gettysburg Magazine… they’re doing a feature story on their contributing photographers with some of their images. I’m asked to submit some of my most favorite photographs that I’ve taken and I’ll be honest, I’m having a really hard time narrowing them down.
Do you have a favorite image? If so, please let me know by leaving me a comment. I’d love to hear why as well.
Thank you!
Gorgeous Baby
October 21, 2009I kept saying how pretty this little girl is during the session but as I’m going back to edit them, the word gorgeous seems more appropriate. If there is a family member looking at these, you might want to let her dad know he’s really in for it!
I’m convinced that every newborn I photograph is so blessed to have such wonderful and loving parents… and she is certainly no exception. Thank you so much G family for allowing me to photograph your gorgeous girl!

Here she is with her equally as gorgeous mommy. I love this shot.

And finally, we made great use out of the great dane. I did get the dog’s full body here but just thought this looked pretty cool in a square crop.

Happiest Baby on My Block: Part 2
October 19, 2009I arrived later than our scheduled start time to this family session last week so I felt like the session cut got short when we ran out of daylight. Even though I got a ton of awesome ones during the time we had, I wanted to offer a part two because of my scheduling conflict. And let’s face it, it wasn’t like it was pulling teeth for me to get to photograph this baby again!
Her mom brought her over to my house because I wasn’t too sure we’d get to do anything outside given the yucky weather this weekend. But as it turns out, I was able to get a few with the gorgeous foliage in my yard right now.
If you ever wonder why many photographers like myself prefer natural light over artificial light any day, just take a look at the lighting on this photo here. This three dimensional effect and the softness that the light gives is so gorgeous.

Proof that she doesn’t smile ALL the time, but in her defense, I think this is when I was singing my ABCs to her, VERY off key and she was like, “Ummmm, lady… don’t quit your day job.”

Mr. Baby Gap Ad
October 14, 2009I first met this little guy when he was only 5 weeks old. See here. He was so good for me then and so good yet again but this time, he was old enough to show off his million dollar smile and sparkly blue eyes… oh my.

His creative mom contacted me with an idea in mind, to create a fun calendar of him as a gift for some lucky relatives. So I had a lot of fun dressing him up in hats and using props to celebrate each month of the year. He happily obliged… most of the time! Then I captured some of him in his gorgeous nursery(love this one because I took a newborn photo of him on this very same piece of furniture)

Then I got some great family photos….like this one here…

… but yet I can’t seem to get over these hat photos.
