Photographers’ Shoot Out

August 21, 2010

A wedding photographer friend of mine hosted a networking event or a shoot out a few months ago and I didn’t get to go… so I decided to host my own! I had a great turn out with about 13 local photographers and everyone there had one thing in common: we love to take pictures… no matter what the skill level was.

I hired these two beautiful sisters whom you might recognize from prior sessions. They have such beauty and poise everytime I photograph them so I knew they’d be perfect for this job. I have this itch to do sessions in downtown settings. Families, babies, kids, you name it… I love the color and natural architecture that an urban setting provides so that was my choice for this shoot out.

Here are few of my favorites:

I’ve been getting a lot of questions by email and on Facebook lately and while I wish I had the time to devote to answering each and every one in detail, I decided to start offering one-on-one mentoring sessions to cover these questions more thoroughly. One-on-ones on any photography subject matter that we can cover in an hour-and-a-half. While I am anything but the photography guru or Photoshop guru, I do enjoy teaching, chatting it up with like-minded creative people, and I do think I have some valuable lessons-learned to share! So I put the call out on Facebook last week and within the week’s time, I filled 5 spots. At the risk of overbooking on my already tight schedule, I’m going to hold off on offering any more until later on this year until I’m sure I’ve gotten all their follow-up questions answered. If you’d like more information on sessions in the future, please contact me.

My first mentoring session was this past week with the super sweet Crystal Collura, a past client of mine who is interested in starting a business, who drove 3 hours to come chat with me. We had a great time on a beautiful evening at Baker Park talking about things like metering for light, camera settings, toggling focal points and some basic Photoshop Talk. She reminds me so much of myself in that she wants to absorb everything she can about photography. It’s an obsession I tell ya!

Just some fuzzy baby ducklings we met at Baker Park.
